The reason for why I haven't been updating the blog is because I don't have pictures for the stuff I did  haha. But I can write about them.

On Thursday I had school, then basketball and after that I when for dinner at a Rotarians house. After that I met some friends at the beach and everything was pitch-black except for the stars and it was really cool. We later went to the restaurant where one of them works to eat appetizers.

On Friday we had no school. It was a (I forgot the name of it, but there is simply no school). Instead I went with some friends to Smith's Apple farm. The place is basically an apple farm where you can go and pick apples and then you pay by weight. You can also buy cider and apple pie. At the apple farm they have a corn maze which we of ourse went in. Your mission in the maze is to find five stations and the average time in about one to one and a half hours. We did it in 45 minutes!

HAHAHHA

After that we drove to see another friend. Later I met with a friend at Tim Hortons which was a huge mistake. Coffee at 9 is not good unless I don't want to sleep that night! After Timmies I went to a friends party where we celebrated the cast list for the musical.

I hope you didn't expect me to get a main role or anything, because I didn't want one and I didn't get one hahaah. I'm in the chorus :D

Today we had our second game of the season. This was the winning team of last year and my team lost by 40p then. But today we only lost by 12!! We were down by 20p by half-time, but then we suddenly started to play better! We were so good in the last quarter and if we would have played the whole game as we did then, we would have won!

Hanging out with the school mascot!!

Today was a really fun day at school! I forgot to bring my lunch so I had to buy food (for the first time) and I got something called a "cheeseburger wrap", and I will not be getting that again I can tell you. After school I went with some friends to Rabbit Dash (a great café) and after that I had to hurry home to get prepared for my first ever golf tournament.

So I have mentioned that I have gone to the driving range to practice golf twice. I got bored fast and didn't have a lot of patience so I figured that golf would not be a lot of fun. But this tournament was great! It was 9 holes and took about 2 and a half hours. After the tournament we had a big dinner and they announced the winners, which was my group! I was pretty good at putting actually!

I managed to shoot (or swing or whatever) the ball across a huge pond. The ball bounced in the water a few times which was supercool!

So we had to walk a lot... Kidding! We drice a golfcart!!!

I really love this thing. Driving it is like GTA, but in real life.

Today was the first basketball game!
We went to Owen Sound to play against one of the schools there and sadly we lost by about 10 points or something. We have got another game on Wednesday so I'm looking forward to it a lot! We are 14 girls in my team and here are some pictures we took today at our school. Apparently it is common to wear your jersey at school on a gameday! That is so cool!

It's hard but I'm trying to learn the basketball rules they have here. All of them are not the same so sometimes I'm very confused. I managed to foul a lot today hahah :)

I have been to Mac Gregor Provincial Park before and I wrote about it in the blog so I won't go in to any details. Anyways, Friday everyone in Musical Theatre went to Mac Gregor because we were supposed to help out during Wild for the Arts which was on Saturday and Sunday. Wild for the Arts is a small festival with music, art and nature which they organise every year at the park.

We in the musical were going to perform some of the songs from Grease so we practiced that a bit on Friday. We also got to choose a one hour workshop and I choose Survival Skills. Now I know how to survive anything in the wild! Basically, if our airplane is shot down from the sky and we find ourselves helpless in the forest I can make a fire if we happen to stumble upon a battery and steel wool or some cotton, ferrocerium, another metal and vaseline. But if we can't find this stuff I'd have to improvise.

Kate and I camped at the park from Friday to Sunday with a couple from her rotary club. This was the first time I went camping so it was pretty new and interesting. We made the best s'mores ever!!! With giant marshmallows!!!

Most of the pictures are Kate's since she brought a good camera. If there's a pink smudge in one of the corners then you know I was the one who took it. Otherwise it was Kare!

The trailer was probably closer to a house in size than to the average trailer.

But you won't see me complaining!

Yup, not complaining!

Practicing some Grease-songs.

Note to self: Canadians wear flannel and drink Tim Hortons.

Lake Huron is almost dubble the size of Skagerack.

Pretty.

A bird ate out of my hand! Coolest thing ever!!

It got fairly hot actually!

Pictures of people.

More people.

And even more.

This picture was on facebook and it is too pretty to not show everyone!

Kate and I went on the longest bike-ride ever.

Here is a picture of Poison Ivy which was EVERYWHERE!!

Something else that was everywhere; squirrels and chipmunks!

It was a fun weekend!

Today was a fun day at school. After school, instead of going to basketball I went to physio where I got three different treatments. After that I went home and started making cinnamon buns with Emily! I'm not going to show any pictures of when we burnt, spilled or messed stuff up. But you can imagine.

We had planned to finish making the buns in one hour since we had to go to Interact at 6 pm. This timeline was especially hard to hold considering that the stupid dough had to rise for an hour. So we did what we could and I had to finish it when I got home again.

Did you know that pearl sugar cannot be found outside of like Scandinavia and a few countries in Europe??? They have fried ice-cream, but not pearl sugar?!

Magnet treatment for my knee. I had to lie like this for 15 WHOLE minutes.

Preptime, because we're so proper.

None of us were sure about what the dough should be like so we kind of just guessed while pouring flour in the mix.

No day should be a selfie-less day :DDD

I didn't tell you this because I don't want my blogg to be glutted with negativity, but last Friday I injured my knee at basketball practice. I didn't think of it afterwards because I hurt my knees often. But after the practice a friend noticed that I was limping. And the limping continued until today and I'd say that today would be the first day since the injury that my knee isn't hurting constantly.

Anyways, I went to a physiotherapist (sjukgymnast) today at lunch and he declared my knee being incapable of any physical activity for a week. He had some long, difficult words for the injury but as I understand it my knee is swollen. So today I got a laser treatment and I'll be going for them for three days straight and that is supposed to cut down on the healing time.

It was lucky that I went to the physio at lunch today, otherwise I would have played basketball after school. Instead I watched the practice and did some simple things. I am pretty close to being able to spin the ball on my finger now, so I've got that going for me.

Today I got to do two super fun things: drive around on the golf court in a golf cart and shoot a crossbow!

This is me, the next Daryl Dixon.

I was actually pretty good.

This is the balloon (20 m from me) which I killed.

Here is the crossbow which was super heavy. I will have muscle aches in my arms tomorrow.

Hitting the tree wasn't my intention. But I say I was aiming at it anyways hahah

Yesterday Mayra, Brittney, Cassidy, Kate and I drove to Owen Sound which is about 40 minutes from Port Elgin. We went there to go shopping in the mall they have there. I got a pair of shoes, some sports stuff and a shirt with a maple leaf and the text "eh." on it!! Hahhaha!

The cool kids sit in the back.

We went to the European bakery Cafe to eat European stuff like waffles and maple syrup. Hahah.

I so regret not buying this.

But I regret not buying these even more!!

And it's not a true Canadian day if you don't top it off with some Tim Hortons.

And when I got home I fried some meatballs and served them with Ikea's high-quality lingon sylt. In Canada people put the meatballs in the oven covered with BBQ sauce so the Swedish version was new to my host parents.

So today Sara was working late which means either oven-pizza or going out for dinner. Ken and I went to the Queen's and had our food.

Something I've noticed here in Canada is that most people eat small breakfasts, lunches, have a lot of small snacks during the day and finish off with a huge dinner. I am not used to that which means that sometimes I get hungry straight after food because that's when I'm used to eating, and sometimes I'm full after a few bites because usually I wouldn't have eaten at that time.

In Sweden I would have had breakfast before school, lunch at noon and mellanm[l at about 4 pm and then I would have gone to basketball practice. After basketball I would have a small (I mean tiny) dinner sometime between 8 and 10 pm. Here I eat breakfast before school, lunch at noon, mellanm[l at 3:30 (before practice) and after that I have dinner at 6 pm. This does not work for me. I know I should eat, but my body is like "dude, if you eat now you'll puke during training". Even though I've already had practice. And then later in the evening I get really hungry, even though I already had dinner.

My conclusion: life is hard #exchangestudentproblems

Since I came here people have been trying to talk me into eating bacon with maple syrup on. I always said I would, but the back of my head was like "instant type 2 diabetes!!" and I just never tried it.

Until today.

This is maple syrup and bacon on fried chicken. Only in Canada, I guess. Also, since it was like 6:30 I ate 3 of them, thought I was going to die from over-stuffness and now it's 9:30 and I'm hungry...

My giant dilemma

Today I got up at 6:15 because the cross country practiCe started at 7:30. It was fun and horrible at the same time. Like, when I was running I thought I was dying, but afterward I felt super mega great and I wanted to keep doing it. So yeah, every Monday and Wednesday I have got cross country before school.

I got to see the sunrise on my way to cross country.

Today was also picture day. I kind of knew about it, but I still didn't bring shampoo and stuff so that I could shower after cross country. My friends Brittney brought me to her house so that I could shower before school started. And I got to meet her doggies =D

Taking all the students' pictures took the whole day, but since my surname starts with "B" I was one of the first. But I still had to stand in line for like an hour just to take two pictures. I don't have the pictures now, but when I do I'll show you. But first I just have to warn you: I did not bring a brush to school and my hair was still wet from the shower... So yeah. Messy.

I changed math to geography (I'll be having math next semester instead). So now I've got a week of geography to make up. This means a lot of homework.

After school was basketball practice and it was really fun! I'm not sure, but I think my coach wants me to be a point guard. That means I'll be taking a huge leap out from my comfort-zone on the court.

Today after school were the tryouts for the tennis-team. Kate, our friend Brittney and I decided to join so today we had our first tennis practice ever. It was really fun and we've got a tournament on Oct 23! Too bad I'll be missing it since I'll be on my way to Ottawa that day :,( But I mean, Ottawa and Montreal or tennis in Southampton? Not the hardest choice.

This is the tennis court I'll be practicing on every Tues and Thursday.

I also want to tell you that after the camp Kate and I were taken to a golf club where I got to show my incredible patience and skills in listening to instructions. I don't think golf is my thing. But it's fun as long as the company is fun, I guess.

Kate was really good. As you can see to the right it looks like I hit the ground more than the ball.

:)

And here's a picture from the camp that shows you that I'm living just as dangerously here as at home hahaha :D

Hey again! Hope you had a great weekend, because I did. All the exchange students in district 6330 went on a camp together and got to meet and get to know each other. First we met at McDonald's where we ate (obviously) and after that we went to Camp Presqu'ile. This was on Friday after school and it was raining A LOT. We didn't know what to expect at the camp, rain, sun, wind, snow. I mean, we're in Canada. But luckily Saturday and Sunday were sunny and dry.

We were nine girls and nine boys from 13 different countries who had one thing in common. We were going to live in a strange country where no one speaks our language for a whole year. I think that maybe I have the least to complain about. I had the language from before I got here and the culture-chock is not as distinct compared to others. But still, living here for three weeks has had it's ups and downs and I have a lot to learn.

Sometimes I get a sudden wave of sadness realizing that I won't be going to basketball on Thursdays, that I won't be going to Farmor and Farfar for Christmas day or when I remember that Essie is not going to meet me with a wagging tail whenever I walk in the door.

But that's okay I learnt. At the camp we didn't only have fun and stuff, we learnt how to handle homesickness and where to go if you've got a problem ect. To tell you the truth, I don't feel homesick at all. Sometimes I just miss a certain thing or a feeling. I can give you an example from today at the seniors basketball tryouts. Once after I did something good I immediately turned around to the sideline and expected to see Matte there, doing sjukgymnastik and laughing in approval ('cus I know you so well).

Another thing I've been doing to remind me of home is that I've only been listening to Swedish music. Every time I put on music it either is in Swedish or the musician is Swedish. I'm listening to H[kan Hellstr;m now hahah.

But now back to the camp! We were 18 kids from Sweden, Finland, France, Brazil, Denmark, Czech, Ecuador, Chile, Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia. Friday night saw only about introductions and getting to know each others. We weren't the only ones there. There were a bunch of rebounds who had been off as exchange students and come home to Canada again. They were very funny and had a lot of good stories to tell from their own experience.

All the exchange students with their flags. I forgot mine of course.

On Saturday we went "hiking". They drove us a couple kilometers so that we would take a picture in front of a waterfall and then we drove to a park where they bought us ice cream. But I'm not complaining. The camp is right by a lake so a few of us went swimming, some played basketball or football and others just talked. We had a talent show that evening. I did a card trick which had a 50% chance of working, and that actually did work! I was surprised myself! The winners were Ana Paula (from Ecuador) who sang beautifully, Laura (from France) who did a cool gymnastic/dance number and Pony (from Taiwan) who also danced. The talent show was just so fun! And afterwards we sat around the campfire for hours. The first night was really warm, but the second was extremely cold. We were shivering in our sleep!

A picture from our hike!

The Sunday was mostly filled with goodbyes and last minute stuff but we still had fun. We will have another camp in October so it's not very far until we meet again.

All in- and rebouds :D

When I woke up today I was told that it was raining so I put on a thick sweater and a pair of black jeans. Little did I know that it was going to be 30°, and because of humidity it would feel closer to 40.

I have just come home from my third day at school and just wanted to tell you that I won't be able to update the blog this weekend because I'm going to an exchange-student camp now. I'll be home again on Sunday. Also I wanted to tell you that I will be trying out for the Senoirs cross country running team on Wednesday at 7:30 before school. Eeeearly...

I'm sorry to tell you (again) that I don't have a picture for you so here is a picture of a cliff I stood on and luckily did not fall down from.

So today was my second day of school and it is still very fun! Musical theatre is astonishingly enjoyable and Physics is still my favorite subject. I was complaining about my homework yesterday, and get this. I did the wrong homework. I did the one we we're going trough today and I didn't do the one I was supposed to. Anyways, I survived the second day of school!

Today I learnt the reason for why there seems to be way to many people at the school, it's so packed during our breaks. It's because the upper floor is under construction and therefore we all have to squeeze in on the bottom floor.

I won't be able to write a lot today, because I'm very busy. I've got homework for tomorrow, I have to pack for an exchange student camp I'm going to after school tomorrow and I have to shower because I just came home from my first basketball practice.

Well, today was the tryouts for the Junior team (the grade 9-10 team) and I asked and was allowed to join for today. Uhm I don't know how to say this... I kind of expected everyone to be, I don't know, a pro. But apparently a lot of the girls trying out had only played for like a year or two. It was still very fun and I can't wait until Monday when the Seniors (grade 11-12) tryouts are!

I didn't have a picture for today so I present to you; four of the players in Toronto Raptors (Canadas only team in the NBA). Fett coolt!

Up until today I never felt even a hint of worry for my first school day here in Canada. I don't know why, but I simply don't feel nervous before doing something new (e.g. I didn't feel nervous for coming here). I really didn't know what to expect and I had no idea what this school would provide me or what was expected from me as a student. I was of course avoiding some things I knew weren't good. I didn't want to come too late or too early to any class. I tried to not be lonely for a longer period of time (which was really easy since I was constantly being introduced to new people by the people I already knew).

My first class, Physics, started at 9 am. So I left the house at 8:30 to bike to school (which only takes maybe 10 minutes). The school was just packed with people catching up with each other after the summer break and I had to fight myself towards the reception. There I asked for my schedule and about the locker (which I didn't yet have) and I was sent to the cafeteria. There I met Ella (I've met her a few times before) who was helpful and showed me to my classroom. It was room 115 and everyone was already there so Ella introduced me to the teacher and then she went to her class. The Physics class I choose is grade 12, and I'm in grade 11 so I think I'm about a year behind. But I'll be fine, I'm sure.

The three biggest differences between the Canadian school and the Swedish would probably be the classes, the schedule and lunch. In Sweden you are a part of a class of about 20-30 students and you have (usually) all your classes with the same people. In Canada you as an individual get to choose your own classes (and even the level and grade of the classes) and then you go to the classes, with different people in them all.

In Sweden the schedule is different from day to day, repeating every week. The classes and breaks can be different lengths and you can start and finish at different times every day. In Canada (or at least in my school) all the classes start at 9 am, all the classes are 75 minutes and there is a break of 10 minutes between every class. You have two classes in the morning and two in the afternoon. Your lunch break is 60 minutes and sports are either before or after school. The schedule is the same for every day, so you've got the same four subjects every day for a semester. For the second semester you choose four new subjects. In my school the third and fourth period classes are switched every other days, but that is apparently not very common in Canada.

In Canada you have to either bring your own lunch or buy it in the cafeteria. In the cafeteria it seems like they only sell junk food like pizza and fries. Anyways, this means I'll be making lunch to bring to school every day. That fells so bizarre! Something else you also need to bring is your own school supplies. So yesterday I went and chose some notebooks and pens and stuff. Today after school I had a list from all of my classes with even more things I had to buy! Like a scientific calculator! Whaaaaaaaat!?

For second period I had Chemistry, grade 11 this time. Pheew. It was during this lesson I realized what was going to be the most difficult in school. The hardest part of going to a school where they don't speak Swedish will be learning all the terms which are used within each of the subjects. Even if I know something in math, I might not realize it in the beginning because they have a completely different word for everything. But I'll be fine, this will just be fun.

After Chemistry I had lunch and during this hour I was introduced to a lot of people, I think I now can recognize maybe a fifth of the 11/12th graders at my school. My school is by the way called Saugeen District Secondary School, or SDSS and there is about 600 student there.

My third class was Math and the teacher was the first one to be close to pronouncing Börjeson correctly! Apparently ö is hard to pronounce. Math was fun, but we got homework. On the first day. To be finished for the second day. And I've also got Chemistry homework. ööööööööööööööööööö.

My last class was musical theatre! Yes, I'm in theatre. The persons least likely to enjoy something like that. The only reason I choose it was because all the people I got to know before school told me it was really fun and that they were doing it. So I went there, with 77 other student and is was SO FUN! I really enjoyed it. This year we are doing Grease, so at least I know some of the songs already. And no, I'm not auditioning to be Sandy. I told them I can be a bush or a stone or something in the background.

Homework on the first day?!
